Do Not Have a Car License

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will allow residents who possess a valid New York State Motorcycle Permit, Driver's Permit, or valid New York State Non-Driver Identification Card (NDID) to take the licensing courses for educational purposes only. If you do not have a car license, the options to become a licensed motorcyclist are:

1. Get a Motorcycle License: If you never plan to obtain a car driver’s license, you can learn how to ride a motorcycle in the MSF Basic RiderCourse for educational purposes only and then take the DMV Motorcycle Road Test. If you would like to book a motorcycle road test with Motorcycle Safety School, please view requirements here.

2. Get a Car License: if you receive a New York State car license within 2 years of the MSF Basic RiderCourse completion card date, then it can be used to the waive the DMV motorcycle road test.
